There’s a lot of conflicting information out there about CBD’s origins and effects, much of which is inaccurate. To help clear the air, Hempwell will debunk five popular myths about CBD, providing clear information based on various credible sources.
Myth #1
“CBD is Dangerous and Addictive…”
Reality: CBD is Safe and Non-Addictive
Contrary to the belief that CBD is dangerous and addictive, the World Health Organization stated in a 2017 report that CBD exhibits no effects indicative of abuse or dependence potential. An extremely high dosage would be required for CBD to become dangerous. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) recommended not exceeding 70 mg per day, but even if you accidentally take more, you’d need around 20,000mg in one go to reach an extremely high dose. This is almost impossible to do by accident.
Additionally, emerging research suggests that CBD may even help in substance abuse recovery, highlighting its potential therapeutic benefits. However, it’s important to consult a doctor before using CBD if you are in recovery and seeking a natural alternative to help with substance abuse issues.
Myth #2
“CBD Has No Medical Research or Uses. It is all a placebo…”
Reality: CBD is Undergoing Extensive Research and Has Proven Medical Uses in various clinical trials
While research into CBD is still ongoing due to its relatively recent popularity, significant strides have already been made. In 2018, the FDA approved Epidiolex, a CBD-based medication for treating severe seizure disorders like Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Dravet syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis complex. With a 2020 review showing multiple studies where significant seizure reduction occurred and overall condition improvement.
Anecdotal evidence also supports CBD’s potential benefits for various conditions, including pain relief, anxiety reduction, and improved digestion. However, due to regulatory constraints, brands cannot make medical claims about CBD without conclusive evidence. Always approach CBD products and companies that claim to cure major diseases like cancer with scepticism.
Myth #3
“CBD will get me high/It is the Same as THC…”
Reality: CBD and THC Are Different Compounds so it is impossible for CBD to Turn Into THC and cause a ‘high’ effect
CBD and THC are distinct compounds found in the plant, each with different effects on the body. THC is responsible for the high associated with cannabis, while CBD is non-intoxicating and does not produce such effects. The notion that CBD can turn into THC in the stomach is a myth with no scientific basis. Although CBD and THC are chemically similar, human biology lacks the enzymes to convert CBD into THC naturally.
Due to having zero traces of THC in our isolated oils it is physically impossible to get a ‘high’ effect. Using a pure and high quality CBD oil will not cause any psychoactive effects due to this part of the plant being removed. Therefore, CBD is unlikely to flag up on a drug test as it is a food supplement. You can rest assured that on the right dose you can continue working and driving safely.
Myth #4
“If You Try CBD and It Doesn’t Have Any Effects, It Doesn’t Work for You…”
Reality: CBD Requires Consistency and Patience
CBD is not an instant cure-all. Its effects can take time to manifest, and consistency is key. Many users report noticing benefits only after incorporating CBD into their routine for an extended period. Think of it like exercising—one workout won’t make a difference, but consistent exercise over time will. Your body’s unique anatomy also plays a role in how you respond to CBD, so what works for one person may not work for another.
Myth #5
“All CBD companies and products are the same…”
Reality: Products and Companies vary which means there are different levels of quality on the market.
CBD products’ variance in quality means a variance in efficiency. At Hempwell we can assure you that we have high quality products as we not only grow the plant ourselves but are in control of the whole process (seed to shelf). Through lab testing at the University of York’s science park and third party lab testing we are confident that these products are one of the best on the UK market.
