Professor Mike Barnes
A member of the Royal College of Physicians from 1983, Professor Barnes has been a leading force behind the growth of neurorehabilitation and brain injury as a medical speciality for over 30 years.
Professor Barnes starting working with CBD and Medical Cannabis in 2012 and worked closely with GW Pharma on Epidolex, their FDA approved medicine for epilensy in Children.
Now working with Hempwell as Scientific Advisor since 2024, Professor Barnes will be contributing scientific insights into CBD and the Endo-cannabinoid system as well as hosting eductional talks for HempWell's retail and wholesale customers.

Prof. Barnes has dedicated the latter part of his career to the development of medical cannabis awareness, education and clinical excellence. He brings his expertise to global medical cannabis organisations, educates clinicians and patients and advocates for a sensible and robust approach to medical cannabis prescribing and UK industry growth.
His 2016 report – Cannabis – The Evidence for Medical Use, became a hugely influential work, credited with progressing the medical cannabis debate in the UK, Channel Islands and Ireland. Ultimately, on 1 November 2018, the UK Government rescheduled cannabis, and it became legal for specialist doctors to prescribe. Earlier that year, through a shared care agreement, Prof. Barnes wrote the first NHS prescription for medical cannabis for Alfie Dingley, who lives with a rare form of epilepsy.
