Can CBD help with PMS?

CBD oil is gaining popularity amongst the wellness set, and many women use it around their cycle — here is what it can and cannot do for PMS.

The body has its own endocannabinoid system (ECS) (the body’s internal cannabinoid system was named after the plant). There are cannabinoid receptors throughout the body – from the brain and central nervous system to the gut, connective tissues and nerves – and they work with the endocannabinoid system to regulate several systems within the body. Taking CBD oil promotes the body’s own internal cannabinoids to function more effectively.

While there are no conclusive scientific studies to say that CBD helps PMS because further research is needed into applications for women’s health specifically (isn’t it always?), early research and customer experience suggest it may help with some of the symptoms. CBD is known to work with the endocannabinoid system to help regulate mood, hormones, sleep and pain perception – all symptoms that can affect women during their menstrual cycle.

Anti-inflammatory benefits of CBD could relieve pain, the ability to boost the receptor pathways to help calm body and mind could help manage mood swings, as well as assist sleep, thus reducing tiredness around that time of the month. There could be very real benefits to women’s health and wellness from taking regular CBD to help manage PMS.
